Whether you're in search of an outing suited for a large social gathering or a couple's date, the comedy clubs are part of the vibrant Minneapolis nightlife scene. The popular comedians make up a large part of the Minneapolis nightlife. Popular comedians that perform on both the East and West Coasts often make their Midwestern stop in Minnesota comedy clubs.
Over the past year the Joke Joint is steadily gaining in popularity, a relatively new venue in the outskirts of Minneapolis. This club offers shows three or four times a week usually for $15 or less. Some of the local comedians, like Wayne Burfeind or Diane Ford have performed among a long list of local Bloomington comics.
For free entertainment in the Minneapolis/Twin cities area, there is free comedy offered at Acme Comedy Company, which is one of the best Minneapolis comedy clubs. They host local open mic nights where you can try out your latest slapstick routine or give your funny co-worker the opportunity to share some of the favorites told around the water cooler. Acme Comedy Club has been also known as Sticks Restaurant by some of the locals, but they are better known for comedy than they are their food.
For those 25-40 year olds who once frequented the Karoke bars and Texas Hold 'em games, old style stand-up comedy is back. In these trying times jokes, especially those that find a lighter side to the current state of affairs, are providing wholesale release and therapy for the workday--and lack of workday--status quo.
If you're taking a mixed group out for comedy that ranges from the young to the old or the conservative to the liberal, a modern day version of Lenny Bruce might not be the best choice. But just because you need something rated in the G range doesn't mean you have no options among the Minneapolis comedy clubs. Comedy Sports Twin Cities is one of Minneapolis comedy clubs that have a funny, clean improvised and completely interactive comedy show that is suited for the whole family. This Minnesota comedy experience is where two teams of actors compete for the biggest laughs and a referee calls fouls and takes the audience's suggestions. Comedy Sports Twin Cities offers shows that are "fun enough for a bachelor party and clean enough for your grandma." They offer shows on Thursday and Friday nights at 8:00pm, and offer two shows on Saturday night at 8:00pm and 10:30 pm, with student discounts with a valid student I.D.
Stand-up comedy isn't the only game in town. Other clubs have musical comedies, Vaudeville acts, and dinner theater. This week's theatrical performance at The Brave New Workshop is titled "How to Make Love Like A Minnesotan II: Love Is In Bloomington." This is one of the Minneapolis comedy clubs that have theatrical offerings. The Plymouth Playhouse in Plymouth and the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul are other Minneapolis comedy venues that also offer a wide variety of entertainment that often includes comedic acts.
The Twin Cities area boasts the 2nd largest number of theatres in the United States. That leaves a lot of venues for different acts, and there are plenty of local talents that moonlight as stand-up comedians. Year round, weekend and weekday, there are plenty of good laughs to be had.
